British comics creator Andi Watson has been working so hard on his latest graphic novels* that he's let his garden grow. That wild patch has run, very very wild!
"It's kind of liberating when you stop drawing arbitrary lines between what's a weed and what's a flower."
It certainly is. Like Andi's previous book of deliciously drawn one-page diary comics (DISTRESSED BEEPING), this all rings so true. It's just that, in addition, Andi's equally rampant imagination and lateral thinking can't help but transform his everyday experiences into something hilariously fretful, utterly wondrous or so fanciful that his inspiration takes on a life of its own.
From the creator of Page 45's first-ever Comicbook Of The Month (LITTLE STAR) and more, like THE BOOK TOUR*, this is overflowing like an old refrigerator's gunked-up drip tray with domestic appliance deaths, soggy walks in the rain, sunshine excursions to gardens and exhibitions, and the creative life and (im)practical nitty-gritty of being a full-time comics creator.
Oh, and some very weird dreams!
But Andi's life essentially echoes our own: the electrics blowing (and the search for the source), autumn apples, pots and pans, fridge lights failing, risking a long exceeded sell-by date, a year flying by and you can't even remember what you did during any given month... It's all so familiar!
Indeed thanks to SAFETY FEATURES I am now dreading the day I have to buy a new car. All I want's a proper gear stick, a clutch, brake, accelerator and a decent sound system. Oh, and windscreen wipers. I have before now driven desperate miles without working windscreen wipers. That wasn't fun. What I don't want are all the extra discombobulating distractions that Andi's just discovered on his dashboard.
