Art Spiegelman

Page 45 Review by Mark

You might have seen excerpts in either the COMICS JOURNAL or MCSWEENEY’S 13. I think that the Guardian ran a few pages a while ago. This is Spiegelman's reaction to the attack on the twin towers, American reaction to that and the government's reaction to the whole thing. Ten huge pieces, aping old Sunday comics sections, printed on thick card like baby's first book. The scale is correct, the book, with the black cover, spot-varnish and illo of ancient American comic characters kicked sideways by a foreign goat, is huge. The format works, carefully spelling out the events of the day. A scary kids' book for adults.
